SC stays HC order on withdrawal of forces from OU
Hyderabad, Feb 19: The Supreme Court has put a stay on the Andhra Pradesh High Court order on withdrawal of Central paramilitary forces from Osmania University campus.
The apex court bench, consisting of justice GS Singhvi and justice TS Thakur, on Friday, Feb 19 stayed the HC order till Feb 23. The ruling came in response to a Andhra Pradesh government petition challenging the HC order.
However, the court has made it clear that it was the responsibility of state home secretary to ensure that the paramilitary forces do not misbehave with students.
The paramilitary forces shall operate strictly under the personal supervision of the home secretary, the bench said.
This comes amid allegations of brutality on the part of police and paramilitary forces deployed to control the pro-Telangana agitations at the university.
