Maldives Vice President Dr. Waheed meets President Patil

New Delhi, Feb 19(ANI): Maldives Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, who is on a state visit to India, met President Pratibha Devisingh Patil here on Friday.

Dr. Waheed, who is on his first official visit to India arrived in the national capital on Thursday. He is accompanied by his wife Ilham Hussain and a high-level delegation.

During the meeting, President Patil reiterated India's support for the economic development of the Maldives.

Both leaders recalled the traditionally close and friendly relations between India and the Maldives, and welcomed the recent impetus given to this relationship in a range of new areas, especially infrastructure development, renewable energy and housing.

Later in the evening, Vice President Dr. Waheed also met External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.

He will address a meeting organized by the Observer Research Foundation in the national capital on Saturday. (ANI)
