Chavan snubs Sena, assures Aussie players security
Mumbai, Feb 16: In another blatant defiance to the Shiv Sena's threat, Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan has said on Tuesday, Feb 16, that the government would provide security to Australian cricketers playing in the IPL matches.
"We are not afraid of those repeatedly issuing threats. Adequate security would be provided to all Australian and IPL players," Chavan said.
Chavan's decision came just after Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray announced his party's decision to ban Australian players from IPL on Monday, Feb 15.
Earlier, NCP leader and Mumbai Cricket Association president, Sharad Pawar met Thackeray, along with BCCI chief Shashank Manohar on Feb 7 seeking withdrawal of the ban on Australian players.
