Delhi Govt mulls new law to tame price rise

New Delhi, Feb 15: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that the government is seriously considering a new act to control rising prices.

Addressing a function on Sunday evening, Feb 14, Dikshit said, "Delhi Government is seriously considering formulating an act to control price rise of various essential commodities."

She further said the government is awaiting permission from the Centre to strengthen Essential Commodities Act to control hoarders and black-marketers.

Dikshit pointed out that her government was using all efforts to provide maximum relief and reducing burden to people.

"Wholesale and retail price of wheat and atta have shown a sharp increase in the last few months for which Delhi government has taken a major step to provide atta and pulses at a less rate to open market," she said.

"Government is offering nutritious atta in 10-kg bag at Rs 139 against Rs 189 in open market," she added.
