Srinagar, Feb 13: In the latest update on the killing of Kashmir teenager, BSF Commanding officer (CO) of the 68 battalion, R K Birdi has been suspended on Feb 13 for lying about his presence from the crime scene.

Birdi's suspension came after an in-house inquiry presided by inspector general-level officer from Tripura following accusation by the suspect, Constable Lakhvinder Kumar that he was ordered to shoot at Zahid Farooq Shah by Birdi.

Kumar, who arrested in connection with the killing of Shah on Feb 5, 2010 had revealed during the interrogation that he fired three bullets from his automatic rifle, one of which hit fatally hit Shah on the chest, on the order of his senior.

Shah succumbed to his injury in the hospital.

Earlier, Shah's father, Farooq Ahmad alleged that Kumar was merely being used as a scapegoat by the BSF to protect its senior officer, adding that eyewitness had seen Birdi snatching the rifle from a constable and fired at his son.

BIrdi was transferred from his current posting along the Line of Control to Srinagar for questioning.
