Manager sacked after Chilean mint spells nation's name wrong on coins

London, Feb 12 (ANI): The general manager of the Chilean mint has been sacked after thousands of coins were issued with the wrong spelling of the country's name.

According to The BBC, on the 2008 batch of 50 peso coins, the country's name was misspelt - instead of C-H-I-L-E, the coins had C-H-I-I-E stamped on them.

Since the incident the coins have since become collectors' items, reports The Telegraph.

The mint says it has no plans to take them out of circulation.

However, for Gregorio Iniguez and several other employees the mistake is irrevocable. (ANI)
