Burglar's trainer of choice: Reebok Classic!

London, Feb 12 (ANI): Reebok Classic is the burglar's trainer of choice, claim scientists.

After examining footprints found at 155 crime scenes, University of Leicester boffins concluded that 59.99-pound trainers are thieves' top pick, reports The Telegraph.

The work has been published in Police Review.

In the research, scientists found that Reebok Classics were worn by 52 out of 100 different burglars in the Northamptonshire region.

The study also found that jobless criminals were more likely to wear expensive trainers than burglars with jobs, spending an average of 19 pounds more on the comfy shoes.

PhD student Matthew Tonkin said: "Forces will be able to use this information to narrow down their list of prolific offenders."

Co-author of the study Dr John Bond, a fellow at the University of Leicester and a scientific support manager at Northamptonshire Police, told industry magazine Police Review: "The research can tell forces what sort of person you are looking for.

"It will give them a steer - or point them in the right direction, based on the sort of person they might be - their lifestyle, where they might live, how they dress, purely based on the cost of their shoes.

"This research provides another dimension. Recovering footwear impressions adds value for the scene of crime officer." (ANI)
