Hackers hijack TCS site, put domain name on sale

Bangalore, Feb 9: After India's security agencies and government offices, the country's largest software company Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) was targeted in a major cyber attack.

Hackers reportedly attacked the company's website, www.tcs.com and put its domain name on sale on Sunday, Feb 7. The company has, however, restored the website.

In the first ever hacking attack targeting an Indian IT company, the hackers who broke through the website put up an 'For Sale' notice in English and French.

Plugged. In reported that the hackers not only provided their id '[email protected]', but also displaying a whos.among.us widget showing the number of people, who were on the site at the given point in time.

The website was 'on sale' for over three hours before it was restored.

Being subjected to such an attack comes as a huge blow to the credibility of the company which also produces security systems.

TCS told Economic Times that the attack happened at the domain name registrar"s end, which is Network Solutions in this case.

On initial investigation, it was found that the attack was launched through a DNS redirection at the domain name registrar"s end.

In 2009, popular micro-blogging site Twitter came under a DNS hijack attack.
