Srinagar shutdown enters seventh day
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Feb 7 (ANI): The ongoing shutdown in Srinagar entered its seventh day today, following the death of Wanik Farooq, a resident of Rainawari last Sunday.
Farooq was killed by a teargas shell in Rajouri Kadal last Sunday during a clash between the police and a mob.
Security arrangements have been made by the authorities at vital places to stop violent protests. The authorities have declared curfew in five areas of the city and locals are not allowed to come out of their houses.
Violence had erupted during the shutdown call given by the Hurriyat Conference to protest the death of 16-year old Farooq.
All shops, business establishments and government offices remained closed, and the traffic stayed off the roads.
But as the people of the valley were about to begin their normal life, in yet another incident, a teenager was killed allegedly by the Border Security Force (BSF) troops.
Sixteen-year-old Zahid Farooq was shot in the chest, allegedly by security forces near the office of Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Kralsangri-Brain Nishat, on Friday.
The teenager later succumbed to his injuries.
Security arrangements have been made by the authorities at vital places to stop violent.
The locals are unhappy and claim that the shutdown has affected their business and daily life.
Nazir Ahmad, a local said, "We have our examination today and we are facing lot of problem because of the curfew." (ANI)
