Benazir assassination: UN commission to resume probe this month
Islamabad, Feb.6 (ANI): The United Nations commission investigating former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination is likely to return to Pakistan later this month to continue its probe.
A UN spokesperson confirmed that the special probing team would return back in February, but refused to divulge the details citing security reasons.
"Some people belonging to the commission are already in Pakistan," The Dawn quoted the spokesperson, as saying.
The three-member commission, headed by Chilean Ambassador to the UN, Munoz, which began its work on July 1, was mandated to submit its report identifying facts and circumstances concerning Bhutto's tragic death in December 2007 to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon by December,31,2009.
However, the commission had sought extension saying its work was affected by the chaotic situation in Pakistan.
Therequest has been accepted, and the commission has now to submit its report by March 31. (ANI)
