JK: Militants target Friday prayers, kill 2

Srinagar, Feb 5: A day after Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) held a 'Yakjehti-e-Kashmir' (Solidarity with Kashmir) conference in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), the state has witnessed violence.

Militants opened indiscriminate fire targeting people coming out of the mosque after Friday prayers in Sopore on Feb 5.

Two people including a head constable of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in the attack.

The police said that two militants emerged from a nearby orchard in the Northern Kashmir town and opened indiscriminate fire on the crowd.

Apart from a militant and a policeman being killed, another man was critically injured.

This act of terrorism comes after the Lashkar-e-Toiba's front organisation held the conference in PoK on Thursday, Feb 4 ahead of the SAARC conference where foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are expected to meet.
