India's food inflation rises to 17.56 percent

New Delhi, Feb 4: India's food inflation rose to 17.56 pc for the week ended Jan 23, a data released on Thursday, Feb 4 showed.

According to the data release, the wholesale price-based food inflation in the previous week was at 17.40 pc.

The inflation for primary articles, which include food and non-food items, marginally eased to 14.56 pc in the reporting week from 14.66 pc in the previous week.

Potato prices jumped by 44.91 pc over the last year, while pulses became dearer by 44.43 pc.

The price index for food articles declined by 0.1 pc on account of lower prices of tea (5 pc), arhar (3 pc), and urad, fruits and vegetables, ragi and eggs (1 pc each).
