Mumbai: Drunk driver kills 1, injures 5 policemen

Mumbai, Jan 30: In yet another incident of drunk driving, a motorcyclist was crushed to death and five policemen were injured when a woman driver lost control and rammed her car into a stationary traffic police car and two other vehicles.

The 27-year-old driver, identified as Nuriya Yusuf Ahluwalia, crashed her Honda CRV a Qualis belonging to the traffic police, a motorcycle and a taxi in the wee hours of Saturday, Jan 30.

The accident took place shortly before 1 am when the woman was speeding along the Marine Lines, a police official informed.

The driver was subjected to a medical examination, which confirmed that she was driving under the influence of liquor. The woman has been arrested.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Afzal Mukhmojiya, was rushed to the hospital after the accident. He was , however, declared dead on arrival.

The five policemen are undergoing treatment at Bombay Hospital and Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital. Some of them are believed to be in critical condition.
