Boat capsizes in Andhra, 10 killed, 20 missing
Hyderabad, Jan 30: A boat carrying 70 people, mostly pilgrims, capsized in Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, Jan 30. Almost 10 people were killed and 20 others are reported missing in the incident.
Police said that 10 bodies have been recovered so far and search for 20 other missing people are on. 40 passengers on board the overcrowded boat were rescued by local people.
According to sources the incident took place as the boat was carrying more than its capacity of 25 people.
The mishap occurred at Upputeru in Narsapuram mandal of West Godavari district, near the mouth of the river.
The pilgrims were on their way to Lakshmi Narasimha Swami temple, known as Antarvedi temple, in East Godavari district, located on the other side of the river.
