Sugar released for Feb is adequate: Centre
New Delhi, Jan 29: The Centre on Friday, Jan 29, said the 1.79 million tonnes of sugar released for Feb 2010 was adequate to meet the internal demand.
An official release by the Centre said, "This quantity is adequate to meet the internal demand of sugar for the month of Feb, 2010."
The statement was issued by the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution.
Current data of sugar processed up to Dec-Jan shows a drop of around 2.5 percent across the country when compared to last year.
Recently, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had said that, "The country would have enough sugar this year, but there is concern at the highest level in the government that the output could be low and sugar prices would continue to remain high."
