Srinagar observes Republic Day amid shutdown
Srinagar, Jan 26 (ANI): The Republic Day was celebrated in Srinagar amid a shutdown called by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Several other separatist organisations are also supporting the shutdown.
Shops and market places remained closed and security personnel were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
Peroz Syed, a Kashmiri local, said, "Today it's January 26, which is celebrated as Republic Day and Kashmir's senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has given a shutdown call.
"That's why whole of the Kashmir is observing a shutdown, there are no vehicles on the roads and the shops are closed and it's a curfew like situation," he added. (ANI)
