JK: Infiltration bid foiled, cross border firing
Jammu, Jan 26: As the nation gears up to celebrate its Republic Day, the infiltration bids and ceasefire violation along the border continues.
Heavy firing were reportedly exchanged across the border as the Pakistani troops opened fired at Kanachak sub-sector of Jammu district on Tuesday, Jan 26, the day when the country was celebrating its Republic Day.
A senior BSF officer said that the cross border firing took place as the BSF patrolling party challenged the group of militants who were trying to enter the Ulfa Machail border outpost along the International Border.
The firing which began at 2 am between the troops across the border and the BSF went on till 5 am, he said.
He added that the firing reportedly continued intermittently after a short pause in between.
Meanwhile, exchanged of firing also took place at Beliazmah border out post along the International Border (IB) in the same sector which lasted for almost one and half hour in the morning.
"There was firing at about 0200 hours in the morning and it continued for few hours. Initially, the intensity was quite huge and later on it died down a bit. We are watching the situation," DGP, Jammu and Kashmir, Kuldeep Khuda said.
Despite dense fog creating disturbance, searches are being conducted around the area.
