Ghaziabad, Jan 25: Ghaziabad woke up to heavy protest on Monday, Jan 25 morning as residents held a demonstration against the desecration of a statue of BR Ambedkar, police said.
Police officer RK Gautam said that on Monday, Jan 25, morning the statue of Ambedkar installed in Lathmar colony, was found with its right's hand missing and was lying a few yards away.
The damaged statue of the Dalit icon, led to protest from the angry residents who attempted to block the traffic on the highway.
However, their raging tempers were cooled down by the police, who assured them of installing a new statue of Ambedkar in accordance with the district magistrate's instruction.
"After receiving the information we visited the spot, controlled the mob and invited them to come for a meeting with the district magistrate," Gautam said.
He said that a meeting with the residents has been called by District Magistrate at the collectorate.
