Nothing will happen to 44 deemed Universities: SC

New Delhi, Jan 25: The Supreme Court on Monday, Jan 25, restricted the Centre from derecognising 44 deemed universities.

A bench comprising Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Justice AK Patnaik ordered status quo for various deemed universities on several law suits.

Justice Bhandari said, "Nothing is going to happen to your institutions and your students till we dispose the matter."

The court also issued notices to all 44 universities separately to have their response in the matter. The case has been adjourned to Mar 9.

Earlier, the deemed universities had challenged the government's move to derecognise them.

44 universities were derecognised for their questionable academic performance or poor infrastructure.
