Hyderabad, Jan.23 (ANI): About 50 activists of pro-Telangana front Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) were apprehended by the State police, while trying to storm into Andhra Pradesh secretariat in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The protestors raised slogans to demand early creation of a separate state.

The protesters, including PDSU's president Ashok Kumar and secretary Gautam Prasad were taken into detention after they squatted in front of the office's main gate, preventing people from getting inside.

On Dec.9, 2010, Union Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram had announced that the process to carve the Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh, home to several major international companies, would be initiated.

But the Central government went back on its promise on December 23 and since then pro-Telangana activists have been agitating

The agitations have resulted in series of violent incidents in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as some other parts of the state

The Telangana region is spread over 10 northern districts of Andhra Pradesh.

Political analysts feel that the creation of the new state of Telangana may fuel social unrest and separatist demands in other states. (ANI)
