More terrorist attacks likely: Antony

New Delhi, Jan 23: Alarmed by the increasing infiltration bids along the border, Defence Minister AK Antony said on Saturday, Jan 23, that India should be prepared for more infiltration bids and terrorist attacks.

"In the last two months, the attempts to infiltrate into Kashmir have increased. The trend will continue as those inimical to our country see that the situation in Kashmir is improving and they cannot tolerate it," Antony told reporters here.

Addressing a function organised by the India chapter of an NGO, Transparency International, Anthony added that though the attacks are likely to increase the armed forces are prepared to face any attacks.

"India has to be ready for more attempts at infiltration and terrorist attacks, and we assure that the armed forces will take every step to counter them," he said.

On his visit to Jammu and Kashmir in Dec 2009, Antony had announced that local police will be assigned with more function related to law and order situation in the valley.

Nearly 30,000 troops were withdrawn from from Jammu and Kashmir in 2009.

The warning by the defence minister came just after the Pakistan prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that Pakistan cannot guarantee that another 26/11 terror attacks will not take place.
