Conflicting testimonies give new twist to Pak terror suspect Aafia's case
New York, Jan.21 (ANI): The trial of Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has taken a new turn with an FBI official saying that the finger prints taken from the rifle, which was purportedly used by Siddqui to shoot at her American investigators, did not match hers.
In an another event, the case was further complicated when a witness's testimony appeared different from the one given by American official Captain Schnieder earlier.
Masood Haider Gul, a witness in the case, had previously told the Manhattan Federal Court that he had seen Siddqui firing at the US soldiers, The Dawn reports.
Captain Schnieder had told the court that Siddiqui, who is currently under US detention, shot at him while she was on her knees. But on the second day of the trial, Gul told the court that she was standing when she fired the gun and the gun was pointing at some other official
It may be noted that Siddiqui has been formally charged by the US for allegedly shooting at her American interrogators in Afghanistan in July last year.
Aafia' s lawyer Charles Swift has denied the charges, saying there was no evidence that she ever touched or fired the M-4 rifle.
"The soldiers had given different versions of where she was when the M-4 was allegedly fired and how many shots were fired," Swift had said earlier.
Aafia faces up to 20 years in prison on the attempted murder charges and life in prison on the firearms charge. (ANI)
