Telangana: Osmania students clash with police

Hyderabad, Jan 20: Osmania University Students clashed with police on Wednesday, Jan 20, during a 48-hour shutdown across Telangana region.

The police fired several rounds of teargas shells to disperse protesting pro-Telangana students who indulged in stone-throwing and violence.

Many were injured in the clashes that erupted while the protesters were carrying out the body of Osmania student Venu Gopal Reddy in a procession.

Reddy was one of the two students who committed suicide on Tuesday, Jan 19.

The protesters were holding a rally inside the campus. Many students were boycotting their semester exams.

The students also set afire a security vehicle and shouted slogans like 'police go back'.

The JAC called for a strike after two students, depressed over the delay in carving out a separate Telangana state, committed suicide.
