Nigeria records first Swine Flu death
Abuja, Jan 19: Nigeria has recorded its first Swine Flu death on Monday, Jan 18, the country's Ministry of Health said.
Health Minister, Babatunde of Osotimehin, said, "As at Jan 18, 2010, Nigeria has also recorded 11 confirmed cases of H1N1 Influenza."
38-year-old female living in Lagos travelled to the United States about three months ago.
She died on Tuesday, Jan 5, 2010 at Reddington Hospital Victoria Island, Lagos, after reporting sick six weeks ago.
Babatunde said, "The ministry in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health had collected samples from the index case and her contacts for further investigation."
He also urged anybody who suspects having symptoms of the disease to report to the health care delivery institution for proper medical check-up.
