Maria Sharapova crashes out of Australian Open

Melbourne, Jan 18: The 2010 Australian Open started on a disappointing note for Maria Sharapova fans as the former champion crashed out of the tournament losing her first round match.

Fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko defeated Sharapova 7-6 3-6 6-4 at Melbourne Park on Monday, Jan 18.

58th ranked Kirilenko took down the 14th seeded champ in a three hour battle.

Kirilenko will be clashing against Yvonne Meusburger of Austria next.
