Fog engulfs parts of northern India

Amritsar/Gorakhpur /New Delhi, Jan 18 (ANI): A dense fog once again threw normal life out of gear in the northern parts of India today.

Amritsar reported a minimum temperature of 0.4 degrees Celsius that was four degrees below normal.

The fog delayed many trains and flights in Amritsar while the city traffic was reduced to a crawl.

"There is so much fog and despite putting on fog lights the visibility is less. I'm facing difficulty in driving, the children are also getting late for school," said Bharat Bhushan, a school bus driver.

The fog caused delay in trains in Gorakhpur town of Uttar Pradesh as well.

Passengers faced a tough time while waiting in the biting cold at the platform.

"I've come from New Delhi, have to go to Chhapra. We've been waiting here for past two-three hours but still we are clueless as to when we will be able to reach our destination," said Suresh Choubey, a passenger.

Meanwhile, after four days of disruption in operation, the flights at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Indian capital New Delhi were on schedule.

For past four days, over 200 international and domestic flights were disrupted at IGI because of dense fog.

The fog led to cancellation of around 26 flights on Sunday. (ANI)
