China: Earthquake triggers landslides, 7 dead
Beijing, Jan 18: Even as the world tries to come to terms with the devastation of Haiti earthquake, a temblor hit China killing at least seven people and injuring over nine.
The earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale hit the mountainous region in southwestern China on Sunday, Jan 17, triggering off landslides.
There were two separate landslides. According to reports in Xinhua, the nine injured people are in a hospital while one person is still missing.
The quake struck Guangling district in Guizhou province, 100 kilometres southwest of the capital Guiyang on Sunday, Jan 17 evening at 5:35 pm (8:05 pm IST).
