Oracle may fire 13,800 Sun Microsystems employees
New Delhi, Jan 15: Oracle Corp is expected to lay off half of Sun Microsystems Inc"s employees, or almost 13,800 people after the aquisition is completed.
According to Brent Thill, a San Francisco-based analyst with UBS, Oracle would take this step to squeeze a profit from Sun.
In Apr 2009, the second biggest software maker announced the purchase of Sun. However, the acquisition is taking time due to a European regulatory probe.
Oracle forecasts 1.5 billion dollars in operating profit from Sun in the first fiscal year after the acquisition.
In Sep 2009, Oracle Chief Executive Officer Larry Ellison informed that the regulatory investigation was not only causing a delay in the acquisition but was also leading to a loss of 100 million dollars a month in Sun.
Sun, which employed almost 27,600 in Sep 2009, declined to comment
