New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): A dense fog over the IGI airport on Thursday morning disrupted flight operations. Around 35 domestic and international flights had to be rescheduled.

Due to the dense fog, around 10 domestic flights to Agartala, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, Pune, Chennai, Leh, Amritsar, Lucknow and Coimbatore were cancelled, said sources at the IGI.

Several flights have been cancelled or delayed in Mumbai as well on account of the delay and cancellations of flights in New Delhi.

"In the morning, the runway visibility was between 200 to 300 meters on both the runways which are CAT-III B compliant and can help an aircraft to land when the runway visibility is about 50 metres," said an airport official

The flights were operating under CAT-III B conditions," said an airport official.

Earlier on Wednesday, despite a shallow fog during the daytime, there was no problem in landing and taking off till late evening.

The dense fog began to envelope the airport from around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, thereby reducing the visibility to zero and runway visibility to less than 100 meters.

As a result, the airport authorities had to execute low visibility procedures and the flights were operated using CAT-III B Instrument Landing System (ILS).

On Wednesday evening, pilots landed the aircrafts using CAT-I instrument landing system, after the runway visibility dropped down to 500 meters. (ANI)
