Border Security Force celebrate Lohri
Jammu/ Ludhiana, Jan 13 (ANI): The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel celebrated the 'Lohri' festival at the India-Pakistan border in Jammu here.
The BSF personnel got together to celebrate the festival with fanfare and gaiety as sounds of laughter could be heard from the Octroi Border Out Post (BOP) of Suchetgarh sector in Jammu district.
The Lohri is celebrated with fervour and gaiety so that troops, who cannot go home during the festival, do not miss their families.
"We are celebrating this festival here with great enthusiasm for our soldiers, who are like our children. We want that they should not miss their homes and families," said Akram Khan, Deputy Commandant of BSF.
"We want that they should feel as if they are celebrating this festival with their families. And you have seen their excitement here," he added.
Meanwhile, the police personnel in Ludhiana dedicated the traditional Lohri festival to the girl child.
"Ludhiana police are celebrating Lohri for girls. Everyone celebrates Lohri for boys. But in today's world both girls and boys are equal," said Sharad Satya Chauhan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ludhiana.
"In Punjab, everyone knows that sex ratio of girls is very low in comparison to boys. We are hopeful that this year the situation will improve and girls will be given equal importance similar to boys," he added.
Lohri, celebrated with fervour across northern India, marks the beginning of a new financial year for the peasants, as on this day they settle the division of products of the land between themselves and the tillers. (ANI)
