US plane attack: Suspect's father to testify
Washington, Jan 12: The key Congressional committee has written to the father of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian national accused in the foiled bomb attack at the US plane at Christmas eve.
Appreciating Umaru Mutallab's initiative in alerting the US Embassy in Nigeria about his sons radical views, Senator John Kerry, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in his letter has asked Mutallab to testify before the committee about his experience with his son.
"We would like to afford (Mutallab) the opportunity to discuss his experience with his son, and to provide his recommendations on the process by which he worked with the US authorities," Kerry wrote.
Mutallab's son tried to blow up the North West Airlines plane on Christmas eve.
The suspect had pleaded not guilty to the six counts of criminal charges which carries a penalty of life imprisonment.
