Sohrabuddin encounter case: SC orders CBI probe
New Delhi, Jan 12: In the latest update on the Sohrabuddin encounter case, the Supreme Court on has ordered a CBI probe into the case, according to media reports on Jan 12.
Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi were killed in an alleged fake encounter on November 26, 2005 in a joint operation of anti-terror cells of the Gujarat and Rajasthan Police.
Police claimed that Sohrabuddin had links with Sharif Khan, aide of underworld don Dawoood Ibrahim including links with Lashkar-e-Toiba.
A writ petition was filed by Rababuddin,Sohrabuddin's brother in the Supreme Court alleging that his brother and his wife were killed in fake encounter.
13 officials of the Gujarat Police, including DIG D.G. Vanzara, were arrested based on the interim probe report of the Gujarat CID which hinted several discrepancies in the encounter.
