Oz attacks may cast shadow on ties: Krishna
New Delhi, Jan 12: Expressing concern over the continuous attacks on Indians in Australia, Foreign Minister SM Krishna has warned his Australian counterpart that failure to control the attacks will cast a shadow in bilateral relations.
On Jan 11, Krishna had asked the Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith, who had called in to express condolences on the assaults, to expedite the probe.
"He (Krishna) emphasized to the Australian Foreign Minister that non-redressal of this vital issue will cast a shadow on our otherwise excellent bilateral relations, and urged that the Australian government should immediately ensure that the concerned State police authorities deal with ongoing investigations with sensitivity and a sense of urgency," Foreign Office statement said.
Krishna said that despite the Australian leaders repeated assurance that cases of attacks on Indians are being taken very seriously, the incidents do not seem to end.
Acknowledging India's concern, Smith said that he was aware of the need of an early breakthrough in the investigations.
He added that his government will ensure the safety of all Indian students.
