Balco mishap: Three Chinese engineers arrested
Raipur, Jan 12: Three Chinese engineers have been arrested for the under-construction chimney crash at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (Balco) that killed 41 workers on Sep 23, 2009.
Speaking to reporters, Korba SP Ratanlal Dangi said, "Three Chinese engineers were arrested on Monday, Jan 11, in Korba town."
The arrested have been identified as Woo Chunan, company's project in-charge, and O Lou and Wan Qung - both engineers.
The Chinese engineers were brought before First Class Judicial Magistrate, Sarojnand Das, who sent them to jail in judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected.
The engineers were employed with the Chinese construction major, Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO), that was building Balco's 1200-MW thermal power plant in Korba town.
