'IDF to channelise resorces from Indian diaspora'

New Delhi, Jan 11: At the Eighth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Saturday, Jan 9, the minister for Urban Development, Jaipal Reddy spoke on the issues stopping the Indian diaspora from contributing in the country's development.

The Foreign contribution regulation Act (FCRA), 1976, has blocked the Indian diaspora from contributing to the country's development, it was established at the session 'Thousands of Fireflies: Diaspora Philanthropy'.

The India Development Foundation (IDF) for overseas Indians is a mechanism put in place to resolve problems faced by them and the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs will be more than willing to address any further irritants, Mr Reddy assured.

Noting that there was a need to chanelise the resources such as funds, management or professional skills, the minister said that IDF was the single window platform to achieve this.

Among others who spoke at the session were Mr Maurits Safdar Hassankhan, Minister for Interior, Suriname; Ms Ruby Dhalla, Member of Parliament, Canada, Mr Mani Lal Bhaumik, Physicist, Northrop Corporation Research and Technology Centre, USA; Mr Rajinder Paul Loomba, Executive Chairman, Rinku Group Ltd, UK and Dr Sudhir Parikh, Publisher, India Advocate, US.
