India can achieve 9-10 pc economic growth: FM
New Delhi, Jan 8: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday, Jan 8, said India could achieve 9-10 per cent growth and that the diaspora had an important role to play in this.
Speaking at inaugural session of the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas, Mukherjee congratulated PIOs (Person of Indian Origin) on their achievements.
He said, "25 million strong Indian diaspora spread over 110 countries had risen to the top of their respective societies and are in a position to contribute in India's development."
Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Kamal Nath was also present at the session, organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affair, Government of India jointly with Government of NCT Delhi and CII.
"Infrastructure deficit was one of the key deficits faced by India," Nath said.
He emphasized on the need for bridging this deficit and also on the need for inclusive growth.
He said that the target was to build 7,000 kms of road every year.
"For this a work in process investment of US $ 50 billion was required, which was an investment opportunity for the Indian Diaspora," he added.
