Srinagar: Final assault starts, 1 militant killed
Srinagar, Jan 7: Reports are coming in that one of the two militants holed up inside the Lal Chowk hotel has been shot dead by security personnel.
The police and CRPF launched the final assault on Thursday, Jan 7 morning, against the terrorists after a 20 hour siege.
One militant is still holed up inside the Hotel Punjab.

Media reports suggest that the operation has reached a critical phase as the police forces get ready for the final assault against the two terrorists holed up inside Hotel Punjab at Lal Chowk.
Police and CRPF personnel have managed to rescue several people from the hotel adjacent to Amira Kadal bridge.
The attack began at around 2 pm on Wednesday, Jan 6, when four terrorists launched the attack by hurling grenades at Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers. This was followed by firing.
Two out of the four terrorists have reportedly escaped.
Jamiet-e-Mujahideen, a local militant outfit, has claimed responsibility for the fidayeen (suicide squad) attack.
