1000 condom vending machines for Indian jawans
New Delhi, Jan 7: In a bid to promote sex safe practices among its para-military jawans, government is reportedly procuring as many as 1,000 units of condom vending machines to be be installed at the battalion and sector headquarters of the forces.
CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, BSF and NSG personnel deployed in border and far flung regions will benefit from this initiative.
"A total of 1,080 machines are being procured by the Home Ministry. The idea is to promote safe sex practise amongst the jawans who are deployed at far off places for long durations," a senior para-military officer said.
The officer added that after the initial installation of the machines at sector and battalion stations, Border Out Posts (BOPs), where the jawans are deployed for long durations, will also be provided access to these machines.
The Home Ministry has appointed Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for procurement of these machines.
ITBP is also the nodal agency dealing with all health related purchases and activities.
