BJP wants Munde to be new PAC chairperson
New Delhi, Jan 4: According to sources, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has informed the speaker Meira Kumar of the party's intention to appoint Gopinath Munde as the Chairperson of Parliament"s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Besides this, the party is understood to have conveyed to Speaker on Sunday, Jan 3, that senior leader Yashwant Sinha will be the head of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs.
The PAC chairperson post was earlier occupied Jaswant Singh, who resigned in the wake of the controversy stirred by his book on Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
After Sushma Swaraj was appointed as the Leader of Opposition, Munde was appointed Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha.
Munde will continue to head the PAC till Mar 31 as the chairperson is chosen for a period of one year and is likely to get elected as chairperson again when it comes up for renewal.
