Snowfall breaks dry spell in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 3(ANI): Snowfall on Sunday broke nearly two months of dry spell in Jammu and Kashmir as most parts of the valley experienced the season's second snowfall.
Residents in Srinagar, which for the past one month had been experiencing severe cold wave due to dry weather conditions were an elated lot to see the snowfall.
Consequently, the night temperature dipped as low as minus five degrees Celsius.
Shabir Ahmad, a local resident, said that the snowfall would lead to decrease in the cases of diseases caused due to dry winters.
"Thank God, there was a snowfall after a long time in our Kashmir valley and as you know due to the dry weather there were a lot of diseases spreading in the valley and due to this snowfall the cases of the diseases will also drop," Ahmad said.
A good number of tourists were also delighted to watch snowfall.
"I was here for ten days and was dying to see the snow fall today finally the god has heard my voice and fulfilled my request and I'm seeing snowfall for the first time," said Shahid Gul, a tourist from Mumbai.
Locals are also hopeful that the snowfall will increase the winter tourism in the state. (ANI)
