Telangana issue: Police breaks students' fast
Hyderabad, Jan 2: The nine fasting students of Kakatiya University were forced to break their indefinite fast by police on Saturday, Jan 2, leading to a widespread protest in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.
District Superintendent of Police, Shahnawaz Qasim said that the students were admitted to the MGM hospital as per the local court directives after the students were picked from the campus.
A case of attempted suicide has been registered against eight students for refusing to undergo medical treatment.
Police said that thousands of students took to the road in protest against the police's action, who entered the campus in large number.
Rallies in Warangal district and protest march towards the university have been taken out in support of the fasting students.
A relay hunger strike in support of separate Telanagana has been announced by University Employees Association in collaboration with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Students.
Earlier, JAC had called for educational institutions bandh seeking release of those arrested during the Telangana agitation.
