Jyoti Basu hospitalized with pneumonia
Kolkata, Jan 2: Senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and foremr West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, was admitted to a private hospital with pneumonia on Friday, Jan 1.
“A CT scan of his chest and a series of blood tests revealed that Basu is suffering from moderately severe pneumonia. He is under observation," a top official of the hospital said.
Official said that the condition of 95-year CPI-M leader is stable.
Prime minister Manmohan Singh reportedly called up at chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee"s office at Writers" Buildings around 6.30 pm for an update on Basu's health.
The veteran leader has been placed on oxygen support and is being administered heavy doses of intravenous antibiotics in a deluxe room.
