26/11: Notices to officers over missing vest file
Mumbai, Jan 2: 8 Cops have been issued notice regarding the missing file of the faulty bullet-proof vest worn by the slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare on 26/11 terror attacks on Friday, Jan 1.
State principal secretary and seven senior police officers has been asked to explain the missing status of the file related to the purchase of bullet-proof vests between 2002 and 2004.
The officers who have been served the notice include Principal Secretary (Home) P K Jain; Additional DGP (planning & coordination) Subhash Awate; Joint Commissioner of police (Administration) Bhagwant More; DIG (Prisons) Rajnish Seth; Ashutosh Dumbre Additional Commissioner of Police (Spl Branch 1) and Deputy Commissioners of Police Vijay Jadhav, Sanjay Apranti and S R Paraskar.
Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil said that the officers have been one month notice to file their replies.
The government's decison came in response to the Bombay High Court directives which has asked the government to submit a reply on the missing file base on the PIL filed by a social activist, Santosh Daundkar.
Alleging public officials on their negligence in the purchase of sub-standard bullet proof vests at exorbitant prices, Daundker in PIL said that Karkare's vests belong to those.
The petitioner said that he came across the fact on the missing file when he sought an inquiry into the corruption of the public official in purchase of bullet-proof vests.
Daundker said that he had assembled evidences which reveals merciless corruption on the part of public servants indulging in blatant violations of law in the high-value procurement of jackets.
