Pak Army to acquire 20 Super Cobra combat helicopters from US
Islamabad, Dec.31 (ANI) : The Pakistan Army is planning to acquire 20 Super Cobra combat helicopters from the US to replace its existing fleet.
According to the Pakistan Assistance Strategy Report, which was released by the US State Department recently, the Pakistan Army is mulling over plans to acquire the sophisticated attack helicopters, which could cost up to one billion dollars.
The reports said that Pakistan is likely to maintain its current force of Cobra helicopters, supplemented by armed Bell 412 aircraft.
Pakistan currently has 32 Cobra attack helicopters, which are being used extensively in the offensive against the extremists in the tribal areas.
The Pakistani military has received two squadrons of Cobras since 1983, which were later upgraded with the 'C-NITE thermal imaging' device, The Dawn reports. (ANI)
