'US not brokering Indo-Pak talks over Kashmir'

Islamabad, Dec 30: The United States has rubbished reports that said Washington is brokering talks between India and Pakistan to resolve the long pending Kashmir issue.

Responding to an article published in a local daily, which quoted President Barack Obama's Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke as saying that the White House was mediating talks between India and Pakistan, the US embassy described the report as 'baseless' and 'false'.

"This assertion is false and baseless. Ambassador Holbrooke made no such statement," a statement issued by the US embassy said here.

"Moreover, he reiterated the long-standing US position on the Kashmir issue as recently as his Dec 15 speech to the Council on Foreign Relations," the statement said.
