Protests mar Vishnuvardhan's state funeral
Bangalore, Dec 30: Police lathicharged mourners in Bangalore on Wednesday, Dec 30, where Kannada film industry superstar Vishnuvardhan's state funeral was being held.
Vishnuvardhan's body was on display for his fans to pay their last respects at the Jayanagar Cosmopolitan Club grounds in the city.
Protests erupted in large scale as the fan's grief soon turned to anger.
Scores of people, including several policemen, were injured and at least 40 vehicles were damaged after the police resorted to lathicharge.
The popular Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan died of cardiac arrest in Mysore in the early hours on Wednesday, Dec 30.
According to hospital sources, his wife Bharathi and son-in-law Anirudh were by his side when the Kannada star died.
Earlier, expressing grief over the actor's death, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said the star would be cremated with full state honours.
