London, Dec 30 (ANI): British radio DJ Tom Binns has been sacked after interrupting the Queen's traditional Christmas speech and telling listeners it was boring.

Binns, who had been working in the studio alone at Birmingham-based radio station BRMB, decided to interrupt the speech after the station had accidentally switched to its feed.

When Binns realized the speech was playing, he interrupted, made a quip about the French royal family being beheaded, before playing the song 'Last Christmas' by Wham! with the introduction 'from one Queen to another'.

Following complaints to the station, Binns has now been fired from his position.

Orion Media, owner of the station, said Binns' comments were inappropriate and confirmed the presenter would not be working for the station again.

Binns said he had not been listening to the content of the speech, but decided to interrupt because the station should have been broadcasting a news bulletin instead.

"Nobody would have tuned in to hear the Queen's speech and I tried to deal with in in a funny way. After all they employ comedians to make jokes," the Telegraph quoted Binns as telling British comedy website Chortle.

David Lloyd, the Orion Media Group programme and marketing director, said they would make contact with listeners who complained to apologise.

"We do not condone what he said in any way, whether said in jest or not. Tom will now not be featuring again on our radio stations," Lloyd said. (ANI)
