Boopaiah elected K'taka assembly Speaker
Bangalore, Dec 30: Ruling BJP's nominee K G Boopaiah was elected Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Dec 30.
Unruly scenes were witnessed inside the assembly after the opposition members tried to stall the proceedings pertaining to the election of a new Speaker.
According to reports, the opposition legislators even damaged the microphone installed at the Speaker's chair.
The opposition legislators also were also spotted chanting slogans against the government.
The opposition wanted to delay the election of Speaker since the state government had declared a holiday as a mark of respect for the Kannada actor Vishnuvardhan.
Soon after assuming charge, Boopaiah adjourned the House sine die, a day ahead of the scheduled conclusion of the session.
