21pc Indian students likely to abort Oz plans

Sydney, Dec 30: The upsurge in racist attacks on Indians in Australia could trigger a 21 percent decline in the number of Indian students in Australia in the coming years, said an official report released on Wednesday, Dec 30.

“The downturn is expected in response to concerns that the Indian community have had about safety," said Head of Tourism Australia"s forecasting committee Bernard Salt, rounding up the figure of decline to 4,000.

The report said that decline would cost Australia a loss of USD 70 million.

Salt said that the report was based on the number of visa applications by Indian students for 2010.
