Eiffel Tower is the world's favourite building
London, Dec 29: According to a survey by leading accommodation website Hotels.Com, international travellers from five continents have given Italy's Eiffel Tower the title of the world's most favourite building.
The 19th century iron lattice tower in Paris defeated India's Taj Mahal and America's Statue of Liberty to claim the top spot.
About 16 per cent of the over 10,000 travellers polled in five continents named Eiffel Tower as the best structure.
Taj Mahal, the famous monument of love located in Agra, secured the third spot with 8 per cent of the votes while Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, Rome, was the second most favourite structure with 9 per cent of votes.
The other three landmarks in the top six slots included American icons - the Golden Gate Bridge, Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty.
Sydney Opera House, Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, the Acropolis in Athens and Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro were the others in the top 10 list.
